Time for theories
Ragatha is homosexual/lesbian, which is why she has not married and lives with her mother. A woman belonging to a wealthy and conservative family who exercises constant control over her daughter with the aim of making her conform to standards of “normality,” which would imply being heterosexual and marrying a man, thus maintaining the image of family “normality.” However, it is likely that Ragatha would not have wanted to marry a man, which may have motivated her decision to remain with her mother, who exercised strict control over her. This situation probably caused great discord between mother and daughter, which may have led Ragatha to experience psychological abuse and become accustomed to living in an abusive environment.
