Imho that is the biggest mistake that Israel made, they had become haughty and high minded that God only loved and chosen them when God was only using them to spread his Word. This removed God and inserts a (white, brown, jew, muslim, asian, hindu, aryan) man in the place of God which God calls idol worship.
