>If we dropped it down to just leather helmets, no shoulderpads and all you'd probably get shit tons of broken bones and sprained muscles but little CTE
You just need to compare rugby, they get scraped and bloodied up more but the wrap up method of tackling and the fact that people are naturally not going to be blowing up into each other at full speed unprotected means that catastrophic injuries are less common, while pic related basically happens every week in the NFL

Cam Skattebo injury update:
Diagnosis: Right ankle fracture/dislocation
Details:
Open fracture of the fibula
Deltoid ligament rupture
Good news that there was no high-ankle sprain or tibial fracture.
Translation: This could have been MUCH worse.
I think it’s very realistic that he’s back for Week 1 of 2026, and while he will have some lingering long-term issues, due to scar tissue, it won’t be as bad as Alex Smith, Chris Godwin, or OBJ’s.
There’s a decent chance he is ready for OTAs.
Overall great news!!!
