It’s pretty self-contained.
Basically there is a DLC Copen in Blaster Master Zero 2. Beat the game and at the end of it he enters a portal with one of their Blaster Rifles.
iX2 starts with their Copen finding a Blaster Rifle out of nowhere. But this pulls him and whoever was nearby to a Megaman Legends-like world where mankind is gone and the population is solely of robots that worship mankind.
It doesn’t expose more on the previous timelines due to that. It actually gives teases to future entries instead.
Some people theorized iX2 was more of a project to buy time while they were going to release GV3. Which would explain Kirin’s appearance as a DLC boss.
