Then again Wally appeared in old official art next to Ruby and Sapphire, just the 3 of them implying they were the next regional group of MCs. Who knows really. Dex holder Wally is probably the biggest Pokespe controversy after the Dex holder tournament and general shipfaggotry.

Yeah I can see the romance being nerfed to keep the Emerald arc a bit spoiler free. But later in ORAS you have Ruby and Sapphire obsessing over each other pretty early on. Ruby's even crying and shit about the gf in some cave while a bunch of Pokemon watch him awkwardly.

But back to the fake amnesia, I always thought it was more to do with Ruby and Sapphire being 11 in RS, just having crushes doesn't mean dating at 11 was a good idea. TPC might not have wanted the implication some 11 year olds were fucking either (since "dating" can mean a lot of things nowasays). By ORAS where RuSa are more or less literally dating, they're also put through a metaphorical wedding as if to assure TPC even if Ruby and Sapphire are having sex, at least they waited till "marriage" to do it.

Also Ruby faking amnesia because he got embarrassed over simping too openly is the most Ruby move ever. And their relationship would've moved too fast without any roadblocks, even if those roadblocks are just Ruby's usual bullshit. Though some people also interpreted Ruby in E as trying to sweep all the events of volume 22 in general under the rug, because of all the graphic deaths that happened, to not remind either Sapphire or himself of it all by association.
