Vietnamese girl sniper Hà Thị Thức hunted 13 Chinese men and teenage boys during the war against China in 1979, in Nậm Chảy commune, Mường Khương district, in Hoàng Liên Sơn (now Lào Cai province, Vietnam) She was part of a unit of Vietnamese girls, two others of which were Kiều and Mai and fought with her against the Chinese.

She was from the Red River delta from Ý Yên in Hà Nam Ninh (Nam Định) and went to the northern border to Hoàng Liên Sơn (now Lào Cai province) to work at a state forestry enterprise.

Many north Vietnamese teenage schoolgirls (16, 17, 18, 19 years old), from the inner Red River delta cities and provinces like Hà Nam Ninh (Nam Định), Haiphong (Hải Phòng) and Hanoi (Hà Nội) were sent to the border provinces with China like Hoàng Liên Sơn province (now Lào Cai) and fought Chinese from 1978-1991 like the girls at >>64237280

They worked at forestry enterprises and logistics and formed all female militia units during the war.

Even though Chinese never reached the Red River delta provinces and cities like Hanoi, the north Vietnamese girls from the Red River delta went to the border provinces to fight in Cao Bằng, Tuyên Quang, Lạng Sơn, Quảng Ninh, Lai Châu, Hoàng Liên Sơn provinces (now Lào Cai).
