I liked Outlaw Star when it was on Toonami way back in the day, but I never really finished the series back in the day. I'd say it had a deep effect on me early on and getting into anime/2D culture as a whole. But I never really saw the whole show when it aired and put off watching it over again that I forgot most of it over the years.
Not too long ago I decided to finally watch the entire series from the beginning to the end with every episode and I had an absolute amazing time. The series is great on its own and the added nostalgia elevated the watching experience to something I don't think I could exactly reach with any other series. Especially with how many of the old school Toonami bumpers/videos used Outlaw Star scenes and voice snippets.
I enjoyed it so much that I was distraught over how when I would watch the last episode, it would be "over." So I decided to wait to watch the final episode until I reached a certain milestone in my life. When I reached the point and watched the episode, I also dropped acid.
I was so utterly satisfied and pleased with the ending and the experience of watching it, it felt otherworldly. I truly felt happy to my core. Especially considering I essentially watched one show over many years of my life. I feel like I've never experienced a better ending and wrapping up of a series in any other anime I've watched. It was everything I wanted from the series and how I wanted it to end.
I'm a long time Rozen Maiden enjoyer too, from back in the early days of 4chan. So I'm sorry you feel so strongly in a potentially distressing or "traumatizing" matter. I hope you instead feel a sort of bittersweet happiness that a series was able to so deeply emotionally effect you. You'll only come across a handful of such series, shows, and media that can touch you so profoundly, so I think you should cherish them, be it good or bad feelings.
Make sure to check out other Rozen Maiden media out there, like the manga and the PS2 games
