I didn't fail it because I didn't understand it I failed it because it's made like a heavily scripted AAA game made by Ubisoft or Rockstar so I didn't go to the correct scripted location which screwed the mission up because the spot that I went to put me in the line of sight of the NPC I was tailing. I couldn't get the spot that I was supposed to go to for a cutscene to trigger and the only way I could get to that spot was to walk past the guy that wasn't supposed to see me.

It's just poor game design that doesn't account for player creativity, at this point the tutorial should just play itself because there is nothing to be gained by forcing you to walk a scripted path that you cannot deviate from otherwise you risk getting blocked by a wall, timed out and sent back to the mission area or some other way to stop the player from making unpredictable decisions that are fun unique.
