To expound, from what I have personally experienced (and from the general sentiment I gather in the playtesting server I frequent), while the null is the one class with the highest optimization ceiling, the elementalist has the lowest optimization ceiling.

The elementalist is still very much capable of achieving encounter-tilting tricks, and can definitely contribute. The class's optimization ceiling is just a bit lower than that of the other classes.
