The fact that the cool vampire noble living in a gothic castle was made up from whole cloth by some Brandon Sanderson equivalent a hundred years ago with the real myth just being about smelly zombies in romanian villages really lessened the cool factor and authentic feel of them since they have no historical grounding. And no, paying lip service to Vlad the impaler doesn't mean he actually had any vampiric connection.
