It's a thread about VNs or very light puzzle games, where the game part is mostly in your head. Artstyle (instead of graphics) play a major part. And you are wrong because popular titles like Higurashi or Tsukihime aren't exactly good looking but are still beloved by a lot of people.

Was basically ever17 without the bloat, excellent mystery buildup throughout with a small touch of western edge, just enough not to lose the otaku anime soul. Also the reveal(s) made really great use of the hardware. 999 was a product of its time just like the insane wild ride of danganronpa 2-4/5 with komaeda (nagito for westerners)

Play the demo of Mahou Shojo escape, it's loosely similar to that but with a magical girl theme
