Now here's a thing... while I understand your longing for the art style and glamou of the old design... the reality is that these old building were torn down FOR A REASON.
They were absolute festered with mold, cockroaches, rotting timbers and the kind of stairways that you really start to think "oh dear, do I dare to walk up these stairs without them breaking underneath me?"
I absolutely love the old style, but at some point you just have to admit that "this building is rotten to the core, and it would be genuinely easier to just fucking tear it down, and build a new building on it's spot.
Now, the second matter is "why didn't they make the new building pretty, like the old one?". And at that point the answer is boring old "Because MONEY!". A lot of the building in Europe in particular were is really bad shape after ww2, and new, fast, cheap construction styles and acrhitecture had come in saying "We could build that government bureacracy building for 20% of the cost of the old one". And if you have to rebuild the whole fucking continent... you take the cheap option.
Sad, but ...so it goes.
