There was a delay after that and a pretty big overhaul in how they presented stuff afterwards, with a massive reduction in stuff that could be percieved as yuri.
So i think it was mostly just people connecting dots and coming to that conclusion themsleves, most of the horses are fairly for (you) in the game anyways.

I think it would've been possible if GF1 took some breather moments with the main story. GF1's main story is just one trouble followed by another and moments of respite are incredibly rare I can only think of SKK's side during DR.
