This, it's "beware false gods and power mad false prophets and false religion", which does have connotations in their own history of religion being hijacked. The catholic iconography is just because the japs think it looks cool. It's exotic and fantasy looking, and you don't have to be too sensitive because it's foreign. And it's something they know about because it overlaps with their own popular historical periods. At this point it's a standard fantasy cliche for them. You see some white and gold plated religious villain faction in basically every Jap fantasy game. It's not some irl commentary on real western religion unless you're mentally buckbroken by pol into seeing the humiliation of le western man everywhere.
