The Jewish scholar Flavius Josephus (37 – 100 AD) quotes from Clearchus’s fragment in his Contra Apionem [Against Apion], which has Aristotle say: “Jews are derived from the Indian philosophers; they are named by the Indians Calami, and by the Syrians Judaei, and took their name from the country they inhabit, which is called Judea.” (Book I:22.)
Alexander conquered the important parts of India in 327 BC, and it was around this time when Aristotle claimed that Jews originated from India as far back as the 4th century BC.

Megasthenes (350 BC - 290 BC) recorded: "The Jews were an Indian tribe or sect called the Kalani" (also Kaldu).

Voltaire claimed that Abraham descended from some of the numerous Brahman priests who left India.

Abraham (Ibrahim) may not have been a name but a description, meaning he was a Brahmin.

Bactria was the locality of a prototypical Jewish nation called Juhuda or Jaguda, also called Ur-Jaguda. 'Ur' meant 'place or town'. 'Chaldean', derived from 'Kaul-Deva' (Holy Kauls), was not the name of a specific tribe or ethnicity but the title of an ancient Hindu Brahma priestly caste. The Bible states that Abraham came from “Ur of the Chaldeans.”

Godfrey Higgins stated: “The tribe of I[y]oud or the Brahmin Abraham, was expelled from or left the Maturea of the kingdom of [Iy]Oude in India and, settling in Goshen, or the house of the Sun or Heliopolis in Egypt, gave it the name of the place which they had left in India, Maturea.” (Anacalypsis; Vol. I, p. 405.)
