Drive rush combo shit is one of those things where it looks scary because it really gets more necessary the higher you rank if you wanna take the game seriously. Most people can play without using it as more than a get in tool but paying attention to your drive gauge is kinda the main part of the game since its your ex meter too so if anything just find who you like to play and learn whats safe to do like any other fighting game.
I'm also a returning player so I'm mostly going off last year when I was playing ranked Plat 4 Juri, Gold 4 Aki and now where I play my favorites even if I cant do any crazy drive rush twitter combos with them. I'd recommend the game for fast matchmaking alone since I can get like matches in seconds compared to other games I dont play as much but still enjoy.
