It's been confirmed the local "news" channel there has been trashing Charlie for years, calling him a "threat to our democracy", and all the other exaggerated bullshit like "racist, nazi, fascist, White supremacist" etc etc....
I blame Fake News, personally. They know what they're doing is wrong and dangerous.
They know damn well Crazy violent ppl exist out therr, and if they're hearing this toxic rhetoric all the time they might start believing it, and take drastic measures to "protect us from the bad guys".
