I think adding girlboss features to a character normally reserved not to be one gives Illumination's film its own identity separate from the source material even if its not accurate to it I think it gives a good jumping off point for the plot to enroll in its own ideas rather than being a 1:1 retelling of the video games that everyone has seen thousands of times by now and is tired of.
