No, I agree it's a copout. At that point the taboo becomes entirely extrinsic rather than intrinsic, I mean you can still probably get a decent story out of it but it lacks the punch of the authentic no-holds-barred article. Don't get me wrong I loved koi kaze, but it's like comparing apples and oranges in that it completely changes the dynamic.
