Sally is not a 'leader' in SatAM. Sonic is the leader of the freedom fighters in SatAM. You're not only getting filtered by secondary media you're trying to cite but failing to comprehend it. Sally was only the 'leader' of the group in the archie comics. You could say she is a 'leader', sure, but she is not the leader. Her plans in SatAM constantly fail. Sonic has to unconventionally save the day. She's a narrative jobber for the wind, just like Knuckles. Amy is a jobber in a different, less important way. She is a jobber to Sonic's disinterest in women. They both exist to try and slow him down. The comparison is perfectly fine as they are both anchors who aim to anchor the wind.
Really? Team Rose? "Team Rose" is a joke and you know it. It was one game from almost two decades ago. When has she had a meaningful interaction with Big since then? Her entire motivation in Heroes was still just chasing Sonic. She is a flat character. This has always been her purpose. To chase Sonic. To try and anchor down the wind.
I think wanting to be better for someone is a nice goal. But Amy's goal isn't just to be a better person so Sonic will admire her. It's to get him to stop adventuring and marry her. That's the entire problem. Tails wants to be a better partner in the adventure. He wants to be someone Sonic's comfortable relying on. Amy wants the adventure to end so Sonic will indulge her fantasies. They are not the same at all.
It's not wrong for her to want that, but it's just not who Sonic is. That's why a character like Cream works so much better as a companion. She loves adventure just as much as he does and can keep up without trying to change him. She's a friend who supports the wind, not an anchor that tries to tie it down.
Amy Rose isn't a fitting character for Sonic the Hedgehog because she's a love interest in a series that is not supposed to have romance for a character who's defining trait is not being tied down and being free, like the wind.
