It's pretty f2p-friendly as long as you aren't a complete lucklet and aren't trying to be a tryhard on the leaderboards (not worth it whatsoever). Game throws a lot of rolls and gems your way to build your roster. Once you push past the story enough you'll be able to roll on the event banners and you'll want to pick up a copy of Timeless Aiona. She will kind of trivialize content but also help you catch up in record time. Once you get your first coffin selector, you'll want to pick up Starry Eyed Aiona or Acapella. Aiona > Acapella if you lack either.

When clearing out event shops rolls are obviously the first priority but don't skimp on the shards. They will help your overall account strength. Use refills if you need to (won't be an issue for future events you aren't late to).
