I guess it's not a profitable genre anymore.

I feel like they tried to modernize them in some way they could do it though. It's funny that shmups made today are still extremely dogshit compared to stuff like Mushihimesama which has beautiful graphics and stuff

I have no idea how you could modernize those games if not by adding a million of story or something. Story sometimes drove me to finish shit games after all
