Not OP, but I've picked them back up again recently. Got to the final boss of mushi original to 1/3 hp yesterday and died like an idiot even though I had a bomb left, tried arranged mode and got to stage 5 in that on the first try since the routing is pretty similar. (Stage 5 onwards is pretty hard though) Before that I 1cc'd Futari BL and Batrider. Also I just picked up DoJ (PS4) like a week ago, but that's gunna take time and I'll play it after silksong.

Sorry I don't game on consoles. PC or handheld only. Consoles are cringe. I want portable SHMUPs. They're the perfect game for portability. I use a 48" OLED on my desktop for gaming that isn't handheld. I've been considering getting a 100 dollar stand for it that can rotate to protrait mode for SHMUPs but I'd still rather just play them portable at 1080p.

I don't like how most of the arcade shmups are balanced. I played Giga Wing recently; the first few levels are an absolute snoozefest, then the game suddenly gets a massive spike in difficulty, as if it was telling you to fuck off out of the arcade machine. Practicing the last few levels must've been hell without save states.

It's more annoying because you gotta play the easy stages every time you want to practice the latter ones, but at the end of the day it's really just the same thing done slower. You could do stuff like starting with a higher amount of credits then take it down until eventually it's 1cc too.
Personally I just played these console ports that give you a set number and eventually got better before they started including stage select instead.

Last year Konami spent like 100 million dollars paying pixar animators to make a high budget shmup that released to a prestigious 6/10 metacritic score which is deserved because it is awful. CAVE has simply been replaced by developers with thinner profit margins, which is good and healthy. Over time, if they do not release games, their branding will decay and they'll be replaced by newcomers.

I'm loving what I've played of Ketsui on the cabinets here in japan. I really enjoy the slower bullet speeds and interesting bullet patterns. In particular I love how often the bullets come from the sides and bottom of the screen. I may just emulate it desu, but those M2 Shottrigger ports are just so enviable.

Got a clear on FDF2 Hard some months ago, think I still had an ultimately positive experience despite having a bunch of small grievances with the game. Biggest complaint would probably be usual Touhou issue of bosses being super cool and stages being kinda nothing, specifically stages 1-3 were super mindnumbing to play.
