I don't disagree with that notion, it's just that over the past 10 years or so there has been an excessive overcorrection in media representation coupled with a decline in writing quality. So, you see better representation but the shows are generally awful. It makes it more blatant how inorganic the whole process is, but I do believe in equity of representation as long as the writing isn't hamfisted and lacking nuance. That is a big problem with contemporary tv and film, the morality often has to be spelled out in rigid terms so as to not leave any room for doubt as to the thematic intent of the creators. It limits the parameters of acceptable storytelling and feels stale and ridiculous. You could say media has always been like that but we all know that isn't true and the past 10 or 20 years or so represent a pretty obvious stagnation of the craft. As for Welcome to Dairy I actually think it's pretty good so far.
