Yamada Takayuki at Netflix 10th Anniversary "Creators' Spotlight" talk panel appeals for better treatment of Japanese actors; asking for better payment.
>"I wish Japanese actors could get a bit more pay too. Since the CEO is here today, I'll say it directly." Yamada prefaced his remarks by acknowledging, “Of course, Netflix offers better pay compared to other films.” However, he added, “Still, Japanese actors, including their agencies, often feel they have to rely on corporate commercials.” He expressed his desire for actors to “earn that kind of money through their main profession, using the skills they've honed.” "I'm not comparing Japan to other countries, but it's just...cheap!" he declared bluntly. “Of course, improving creativity is a fundamental prerequisite for that,” he continued earnestly. “But having some level of guarantee at the outset also helps motivate people—it's human nature. I see this as a challenge we face.”
