Why do these guys sound so wimpish? The soldiers from the first game had badass voices and death grunts. These guys sound pathetic when they die. Yet at the same time, from a gameplay and story perspective, they're more "dangerous." They move around a lot more, shoot more, and their projectiles are faster than the Sumeragi soldiers. From their voices, they feel like they should be worse trained and equipped.
