Of course, someone who thinks words are nothing more than that, probably would miss the point entirely.
Translated works are inherently worthless. That's why everyone used to learn Greek, or Latin, or Roman, or French, or German, and of course, Mandarin and Japanese if they wanted to experience and have dialogue on their greatest works, going centuries back.
Nobody who reads a translation of Faust persists under the delusion that they've had an equivalent, let alone intended, experience with the work, and they recognize they are at an innately lower level of understanding than someone who read it in the original German.

Translation is a crutch you use when you are uneducated. To choose to not become educated is a failing on you as a human being, because it denotes how you lack any curiosity in your brain. You have resources for every language on the planet right in front of you and you actively choose to let yourself wallow in having your understanding of a given work prepared for you by an intermediary. It's embarrassing, it's like having your mother cut up your steak for you at age thirty.
