So can ponies see magic? Because if they can, not a single one should be impressed by Trixie's tricks. But if they can't, that means that the magic aura we see in the show is purely for the viewer's sake and would not be visible if you were in Equestria. And that begs the question, what else in the show is only for the viewers?

This is a perfect example of the later season lobotomies that took place. I know the deterioration of the quality in the writers room hit all the characters, but with Trixie it was pretty bad. No one remembers Trixie using her magic to show up half of the mane 6. More than half if you count her mogging off Twilight. I know the amulet corrupted her, but I honestly don't think it changed too much. She still chose to put it on because she had a bone to pick.
No one remembers THIS Trixie because the Trixie that showed up in season 6 took up all the fucking real estate. She's fine, but "fine" is not what I had in mind when I first saw her in season 1. Shes a slapstick character now, she could have been so much more, and I feel like she was meant to be initially, but something made them course correct.
