Al's too cool for Re:Zero. I really mean that sincerely- from design to power to characterization. Everything about him is too awesome in what feels like a, well, ultimately so-so sandbox of a world for Subaru to play in. He's not a kid, whether physically or mentally. Rather, he's a proper adult male who truly thinks and acts accordingly. Quite rare. His intimacy with Priscilla was well expanded on, offering him repose lots us could sympathize with. Moreover, he's equally capable of fighting as much he is thinking, contriving, planning, this in contrast to so many others specialized only in one or the other. He feels human where most everyone else feels mechanical. Actually, on that point, it's pretty funny how the archbishops and generally characters intended as 'rotten' seem possessive of souls whereas everyone else not.
They have convictions of their own. Strong likes and dislikes.

Julius is the same, this guy who probably got the best growth of everyone, growing more intimate with Anastasia, refining his life in pursuit of his ambition. All the way from arc 3 to arc 8, its been nonstop improvement with him. Everyone else should be envious, what with their being confined to existences executing only certain roles.
How can I not pity a character like Anastasia whose forever just the 'money-chaser' or Emilia the 'disabled' or Petra the 'potential wielding village girl' or Rom the 'old man who loves Felt' or Felt herself as the 'rebellious princess' ? At least Crusch had something on.

I liked Otto and Garf prior to their total assimilation into Emilia's camp too. One was a friend before a chieftain, the other not an underling but a follower acknowledging his status of lesser due to being outwitted and outplayed.
Anyway, Volcanica VS Roswaal & Clind should be cool. Al vs Emilia & Rem is already fated to be worthless by virtue of fact Tappei will be forced to twist the story in a way that appeals to fans of the 'two primary heroines'. It's a curse.
