People tend to not back anything but winners, because people hate risk.
It's very common with sports and betting, where people only become fans after a team wins or pretend they always knew that horse would win the race. Or someone stole their winning lotto number.
Shit like that.
They won't back things unless it's a sure thing. So even if there's an overwhelming majority, people are still uncertain. It's like when Obama was squaring off against Mitt Romney for president back in the 10s. Shit was lopsided, yet the media acted like it was some close race.
Also, people are very poor planners. How many people wait to do some important essay until the last day? People do that their entire lives.
And ever heard of people living pay check to pay check? Again, some people don't know if they'll even have money for it until the last days.
I mean, there's a reason most companies who even make Kickstarters actually get bigger AFTER the Kickstarter... because getting the product (if it's produced) is a sure thing. No doubt, Hasbro would enjoy a lot more sales if they sold already produced vehicles on a later date, but DAT RISK.
