I beat Mafia The Old Country yesterday. It has some highlights but overall I would NOT recommend a buy.
Good:
>The setting is really nice
>Great cast and acting
>A few fun missions and sequences
Bad:
>REALLY fucking short (and not in a cute way like Towa)
>Zero and I mean ZERO replayability
>Free roam mode has outright nothing to do. Like the game lets you take a custom gun loadout but there's nothing to use them on so why bother?
>Story takes a nosedive into the floor at the end
>Approximately half the runtime of the game are those "walk-and-talk" segments that are infamous in western games
>Way too tightly scripted, the game never lets go of the player's leash even when there are clear moments in the story that would make sense to have some downtime and let the player explore
It's sad because on paper I feel that Old Country actually did listen to what fans wanted. People wanted a traditional mafia game and basically the total opposite of Mafia 3. Which the devs delivered! But, to put it bluntly, Mafia 3 is more fun to actually play. Ultimately, Mafia Old Country is a rehash of Mafia 1 but just kind of worse at everything.
If I had to rank the games
1 Remake > 2 > 3 > Old Country
