Sure, the Denier is an old french type of silver coins who directly derive from the roman Denarius coins, from whom also emerged the Dinar in Lybia, Algeria, etc.. or the Dirham in Morocco for example.
Even the british Penny is etymologically derived from the Denarius, even tho it went by some weird loops so it doesn't sounds similar. It's much more obvious with the Pound who derive from the roman Pondus.
