Best bet is to look for anything that was released by MANGA! video in the 80s and 90s.

None of these hit EXACTLY the same as VHD:BL, but they're in a similar vein- cutting edge anime with a vision before it became static formulaic tripe in the late 2000s. Also give the original Vampire Hunter D a watch.
