Kris is visibly shaken by the whole ordeal with Spamton. Even when you first meet him, they flinch (step back) when he punches the dumpster and back away again when he mentions the SOUL. Kris tells Susie (and Ralsei) to stay behind repeatedly when dealing with him, presumably because they know Spamton is dangerous and don't want them to get involved. Despite the obvious risk, Kris is sincerely interested in Spamton's deal, which is made clear in Chapter 3 with Ramb and ERAM talking about how Kris wants "freedom" and specifically wants to seek out Shadow Crystal holders. When they put the Loaded Disk in the machine and nothing happens at first, they repeatedly strike and hit the machine without any prompting from the player, expressing frustration that they seem to have been scammed and went through all of this shit for nothing. When Spamton NEO appears and menaces them, they QUICKLY backpedal away until they're cornered. In the aftermath of the fight they're so distressed that they can barely keep it together.
I think all of this is a better (more accurate and more entertaining) interpretation of Kris's feelings and behavior than "they knew what was going to happen and were never really afraid for their life"
