>Like, many people think every contract will cost the same as Ohtani,
what you don't realize is that this contract is WHY the free agent market is inflated and will get worse. Juan Soto would not have been an 800 million dollar player if Ohtani didn't sign for 700 million. Kyle Tucker would not be estimated to be in the 400-500 million range if Ohtani didn't sign for 700 million. Every single free agent until changes are made, is going to be worth WAY more than they would've all because of this contract, even if they aren't making as much as him and it will keep getting worse. Tarik Skubal is already trending to be worth 400 million, Paul Skenes will probably be even higher, hell I'm betting even fucking Jazz will somehow end up being at least 300-400 million when he's a free agent next year. Most teams are not going to be able to afford these, so they get priced out of "marketable" players and will continue to fade away and see attendance drop even if they started winning more. The Mariners are 1 win away from a world series for the first time in history, won the division for the first time in over 20 years and they LOST attendance this year, because people aren't showing up to watch Jorge Polanco. Imagine the situation even less "popular" teams are in if this is what's happening to a team that's favored to make and possibly win the world series purely because it's just not as popular of a market as a New York or Los Angeles even though Seattle is a pretty good market itself.
