All the other potential love interests had to leave Link in the game, with only Malon remaining. In Majora's Mask we see that Kid Link has Epona which is a connection to her, and in TP which is based on the timeline where Link returned to his childhood shows the new Link is literally a descendant with inherited cultural traits from Lon Lon Ranch, his horse Epona, and the Epona Song, which means that OoT-Link ended up actually marrying Malon and having sex with her, and eventually kids.
