Trump will say only what he believes benefits him in that moment. It is irrelevant to him if what he's saying is true or not because he does not use words to convey information.
When the situation changes he might say something completely contradictory to what he said before. If you point this out he'll change the subject or deny ever having said it. This is why he's calling it a hoax even though he himself said he wanted them released.
You could show him a video of him saying he wants the files released and his brain wouldn't compute it.
It's some kind of mental illness.
