For people interested in the evolution of the Nid model range this is an useful source.

You can clearly see the way the aesthetics of the nids are already shifting towards the whole "dinosaur xenomorph" look in the second edition and finally crystalizing in the design language that has stuck since 2001 in the third edition.
The claim that the nids aped off zerg is in my view, based entirely the similarities that they share due to both aping off the xenomorph design, and general lack of knowledge of the history of the tyranid model range. The shift between the aesthetics of 2nd and 3rd editions is more akin to crystalization of the already existing elements within the range that are just made into a coherent desing language, and claiming that it was the zerg who caused this is far fetched at best.
