No, they are not. They should be if it makes logical sense within the setting (and may not apply player characters). Tolkiens elves have a justification (and even they weren't the best at everything), and setting-agnostic it makes sense when they dedicate their long lives to mastering vatious skills. A benefit player characters may not have.
Elves shouldn't just be better by default. That's a dumb stereotype. Maybe you didn't mean it this way, so excuse my rant.

His elves are a mix of Tuatha Danann, angels, elements of actual scandinavian elves, and are largely the result of his christian beliefs coupled with his fascination with the Kalevala and nordic sagas.
They are a genuine creation of his own creative mind. There is nothing flanderized about them.
