There were almost no Romans during Christ‘s crucifixion. There were no Roman legions in Judea in 33 AD. Only local auxilia, meaning Samaritans, because Jews didn‘t serve in them due to kosher laws. The only Italian „peninsulares“ were Pilate, the prefect, with his wife and the centurions heading the auxilia, such as Cornelius snd Longinus.
