Chan and pol to a certain degree did have influence over the greater mainstream at some level but it is also overestimated.
The truth is also that we're simply a lot more cynical and blunt due to the population being more often than not societal outliers (losers). Turns out all of society is being pushed into the no-life computer pipeline by the powers that be.
So we didn't really make society become us, society became us, so to speak.
