I don't particularly think so. Sure, it sucks when some character you spent money on ends up being not that ideal, but that's a character you'll use anyway since you loved them, their original feeling and them as a whole.
Take for instance my obsession with 2B. I love her, I adore her, I cherish her as many would their chosen Nikke, so they'll use said Nikke no matter how bad it is to use them in the current day ideals of a meta at the time. One part of a 5-man squad isn't going to really ruin anything I think and you'll get to enjoy a fresh look for a character you love.
I just lucked out a bit because 2B is still seemingly adored skill-wise and the Nikkes that I adore the most don't have skins or are not really given good skins or their skins won't loop back around (Nihilister and Crown).
