Just picked up the collection on Steam since it's half off, playing through 1 right now. Am I expected to be using items? It doesn't seem like I'm penalized for using them in the mission results screen.

Also in general, should I be playing this like DMC or Dark Souls? Play like an idiot or win with whatever means necessary (spamming)?
