I'm almost positive that Sylvanas was originally penned to be the final boss of MoP. They even introduced her replacement in Cataclysm with Voss and she was clearly going off the deep end while Garrosh was being painted as this brutish but deep down valorous warrior willing to learn about honor from the right tutor.

God I loved every inch of the Andorhal questline.
