>they'd have a much more pragmatic view of things than that.
we know they aren't beyond emotional based behavior, giving their items to starlo and martlet, telling ceroba to leave (obviously so she doesn't have to watch him die). these can be pragmatic but they hint at something caring more directly. his pragmatism shows up in a self sacrificing manner, he's ok suffering and dying if its for the sake of his friends who don't deserve this injustice. you're looking at it from an adult and detached perspective when their decision was an emotional one considering it forgets that his soul is also going towards the war against humanity (to the knowledge at that time). you also call upon the justice side of things frequently through the argument but handwave clover giving additional suffering that wouldn't have been there if he had just refused to stay with the gang as not being an injustice or something hed feel guilty over because you've oversensationalized his pragmatism. we know he's prone to emotion but doesn't express it, aside from his clear signs of care in the pacifist end, in neutral he wants to cry in the flowey fight but has no eyes, his rage sparks over learning that axis killed the human (and really, axis was forced to so there could be an arugment to pardon him for being coerced but with the LV increase that was clearly clover reacting with rage to what he learned. if he was so pragmatic he wouldnt need to "find a reason to hate martlet" in the genocide ending, he already cleared out the underground whats one more monster to bring true justice. all of the signs point to clover being strong willed yet having a lot of emotion under the surface. Im not calling him a helpless little bean but we have signs in every single route of this kind of stuff.
