Adding more lanes just invites more traffic. Preferring bicycles and electric scooters in dense areas is the best idea as long you have proper adjacent infrastructure set up. And motorcycles are the next best thing as long as roads are built safe and general driving culture around is good. Aaand that's assuming you're not a pussy.
