> more like just combat autism
Combat is the soul and heart of any CRPG because role-playing in a computer game is ALWAYS incredibly limited due to the absence of a game master and interaction with real people.
> >cast a light spell to see in a dark cave
> >conjure a mage hand to manipulate something i can't reach
> >disguise myself as another race to benefit from racism
> >send out a tiny familiar to gauge patrols
And what’s the point of this nonsense? Why waste time on it? Does using these things require even a shred of intelligence from the player?
These are all pre-planned moments, just scripted scenes that don’t require building a proper character build or creating a complex system from game mechanics.
This is exactly the kind of thing that might be interesting to people who don’t play games at all, and for them, this kind of clumsy interactivity is just a “WOW” effect.
For those who have played something more complex than match-three games, it’s far more interesting to figure out how to make your character deal damage to an enemy with 100 AC when you’re only given a base 20 AB. It’s more engaging to create a system that multiplicatively boosts your character.
In short, all this throwing boxes by hand is for women and humanities folks. Men, as true engineers and creators, prefer building their character’s build.
