I deleted the psyker I was playing because I just wasn't feeling it. Going with the old reliable officer that I know I like. I told myself I was going to wait to do another playthrough for the next dlc, or at the very least the balance patch, but I finished my bg3 playthrough and I feel like playing this one so why argue with yourself.

Going to roll a dice to decide whether to romance Jae, Yrliet, or Heinrix.

I still need the steam achievements for doing a chaos playthrough, but I just don't feel like doing that. I don't want spend 100 hours on a playthrough where you just ruin everything and everyone around you. Don't get the appeal.

On Grimdark+Unfair of course, but even that is too easy since my last two playthroughs were that as well and I finished them while blendering every fight in the first couple turns. I'll think of a way to make it more difficult and I think the answer is to make everyone the opposite of what they should be, so make Yrliet melee, Abelard ranged, Kibellah ranged, etc.

I'm so excited to be playing one of my all time favorite games, truly a privilege. There's still no Argenta romance mod, but you know I can't complain since I still love the game.

The fact that it's even happening feels like an insult, but I suppose it also makes good sense. The text presentation already borrows very heavily from tweets/SMS, which I think works very well, but to go all in on a phone version? I will be surprised if anyone who isn't already a fan becomes a fan from it, but who knows.

I doomed Hitman. His second confrontation. Tens of thousands of dollars. And I put him away from everyone as a sniper without any cover, right above a crowd of about 8 baddies. Buns is near but not near enough to get to him before he bleeds out. The other half of the team is quite a ways away, in the open, and gets slaughtered or barely survives with every attempt I make.
I really botched this one.
One more try, then RIP Frank "Hitman" Hennessy, and maybe the rest of us retreat and regroup even. What a mess. Just a moment of carelessness, and I have condemned this man. Heavy is the head that wears the crown.

Well yeah but going from Demon to GD doesn't make you weaker as a caster now.
It's a big deal compared to what was.
The biggest downside is perhaps the fact that you need to take Elemental Wizard instead of Diviner and seek ways to compensate lack of initiative early game.
As for writing - it's still an act 5 mythic so don't expect much.

So you're not going to press the +50% damage ability.
Your Stat will be higher than demons though.
Optimally you'd want something with "natural" arms - claws and bites, to exceed in Dragon Form.
Also regular Magus is good because GD simply "adds" more dices to any spell that damages with dices. You can try any gish build that involves such spells. For example Magic Tricksters. Also Magus Archers. GD also boosts Rays alot - though nowadays, you absolutely need Inciter merc for lvl20 feature that removes "silence" on his rage which allows you to forget about Magic Knight.

This is a pretty good description. I'd also add in that there's almost constant skill checks that can be interesting to fail (something all crpgs should learn from), and a fun "Thought Cabinet" mechanic where you get some kind of inspiration about a topic and can choose to focus on it and ponder it over time, sort of. Badly explained but it's neat.

I did a Shifter to make use of that spell that gives you +3 whole extra claw attacks that stack with haste. By the end game I had 19 attacks per turn which was pretty great and could actually play as a fuck huge dragon which is the whole appeal of that mythic path anyway

It's funny every time. When you see enemies bunching up and you have Cassia in your party, you get the little conscience voice saying "don't do it to 'em. Don't do 'em like that."

This is both annoying and exciting.
Charlie Squad, my first and strongest team, took the bridge outpost at D11 and was holding it against assault after assault, as this seems to be the Legion's main route to the western part of Grand Chien. We decided to head a little east, down the coast, ended up at D13 when a Legion assault squad rolled down the river past us. I assumed we would enter into combat which is why I moved us at all. Nope!
Okay then. They re-took the bridge outpost and the refugee camp, heading west and eventually killed by one of my other squads.

Now the funny part. Somehow I'm now technically on the other side of the river, with no way to head back west, no port access. This feels like a programming oversight, but I'm taking it as what you might expect from deep jungle logistics and communication. Maybe the river flooded after we crossed and we have no choice but to press even deeper into unexplored and enemy territory.
It's my main squad so I'm confident they can handle it but it's definitely a blow to my over-confidence, especially right on the heels of losing Hitman.

If we lost that whole squad... Well, that would be an incredible set-back. And we have no way of getting them supplies or moving them back into safer territory until they take the port in Ille Morat.

The cantrips are basically pointless. Every once in awhile I will do a Guidance for a short +1 on a skill check or even an attack roll or something, but it's not like 5e cantrips, they really shouldn't even be there as an option.

One thing to note is that you'll find a good amount of scrolls through the game. Take good note of the caster level though, they do *not* scale, unless you're that one Wizard archetype and then only starting at level 10 iirc.
So that is to say that those scrolls will never be more effective as they are in the beginning of the game. Do not hoard them.

Another thing to take note of that I don't think is ever explained in-game, or at least I missed it for a long time: Wands have a set number of charges then they're gone. Rods have a set number of charges that recharge each rest.

But yeah, PF1e has the more traditional wizard archetype, weak and almost useless early on then very powerful later. You're not meant to be pew-pew-pew lasering out cantrips every round, really. Get a crossbow.

Also take note what spells need touch attack. If you're doing a ranged touch attack, that's dex-based, melee (just 'touch attack') will be str-based. So you will need to do an attack roll against their Touch AC for such spells. If your dex is shit you might not even want to bother with these kinds of spells, especially since you'd have to take two feats to get rid of the "-4 for shooting into combat" penalty. With high dex, ranged touch attacks can be awesome especially since touch AC is almost always much lower than regular AC.

Arcane strike is never worth a feat, right? It's ridiculously weak.

You don't use attack cantrips, unless you're an Arcane Trickster and add sneak attack dice to them and even then it will do fairly subpar damage. Casters early game are mostly buffers and crowd controllers with things like Grease, Web and Glitterdust. You only start dealing stupid damage late game.

Combat is the soul and heart of any CRPG because role-playing in a computer game is ALWAYS incredibly limited due to the absence of a game master and interaction with real people.

In short, all this throwing boxes by hand is for women and humanities folks. Men, as true engineers and creators, prefer building their character’s build.

I recently finished the three official campaigns for Neverwinter Night and have been thinking about trying Neverwinter Nights 2 since people say Mask of the Betrayer is really good. When I checked it out the module says that it can be played without any prior NWN2 knowledge, however it also starts at level 18 which scares me as I have no experience of the ruleset the game uses. When I played Hordes of the Underdark I used my character from Shadows of Undrentide and got a full experience from level 1, but even then I could feel the difficulty in HotD increasing in certain parts but playing the character from level 1 allowed me to learn the character and adjust based on what worked and didn't work. Despite this my build ended up being so bad that I couldn't defeat the final boss as my character could barely do any damage at all to him and I had to resort to console commands. I'm worried about running into something similar in MotD as it's also a high level campaign.

I've never heard anything good about NWN2's official campaign, but still thinking about playing it just to learn the game and ruleset. How is the official campaign?

It's pretty good. It's full of cliches that then get subverted, almost like the writers were trying to be as stereotypical as possible but also give a little spin at the end to each stereotype. Not gonna spoil how those spins end, but for example on the stereotypical thing, the first three companions you recruit are a dwarf fighter who loves fighting and getting drunk, a tiefling rogue kleptomaniac who suffers from discrimination, and an elf druid who senses nature stuff and is a very blatant romantic interest from the start. And obviously the story is about an ancient evil awakening so you gather a band of misfits and save da world.

As long as you don't mind that kind of purposefully cliche writing you'll probably like it, I personally liked it more than the NWN1 campaigns and think it's worth going through, specially because of moments like the whole fort stuff, or the trial. Chapter 2 fucking sucks though, the one where you're working in Neverwrinter trying to get into a closed off district. Hope you enjoy getting sneak attacked, or endless dungeons in side plots that don't actually advance the main story.

Then MotB is like, total polar opposite, really original companion character concepts, incredibly unique storyline, also possibly the best evil route ever written into a crpg, not that the good one slacks far behind either. As far as connection between both, MotB basically picks up right as the OC ends, with the same protagonist, and there are callbacks to it, but I'd agree it's not truly necessary to play the OC before as it's a largely self-contained story so long as you just realize your character literally just got off another adventure and had a whole party and potentially love interest that got lost in translation and you're supposed to feel at least a bit about that.
