So far I'm liking this show a lot. Only thing I don't really like are
1. The occasional pop music intersected into scenes. It feels jarring and in direct contrast to the times the show is trying to keep an eerie and atmospheric sci-fi tone like the first movie
2. The flashbacks are dumb and unnecessary and they take me out of the story a bit. I'm glad they don't happen very often so this isn't a huge complaint, but showing the character's reminiscing about some old thing that happened in the past just feels so out of place with the rest of the story and it feels like it wasn't even important to show it would have been fine and more natural with the character just talking about their memories. It feels like too much of a tonal/medium shift from the sci-fi horror..
3. The Peter Pan allegories feel too on the nose and unrealistic.I would have liked it better if they were either more subtle and "coincidental" about it where you could piece together the allegory yourself by paying attention to some names and themes, or if they went the route of naming things after peter pan as a tongue in cheek autistic scientist joke but everything didn't just fit the mold of the peter pan story. The fact that they are both openly referencing it, and playing into their roles is what kind of breaks the illusion that I'm not watching a television show for me. I would have liked it if it was just the autistic manchild being named peter and the main girl being named wendy, and the other characters just being a stand in for the lost boys rather than outright stated and the lab being fucking called neverland while showing you fucking snipets of the original disney peter pan movie. Like bro, that's not a clever reference for smart people that's just giving people the fucking answer and expecting us to be intrigued.
Overall I still think the show so far is pretty damn entertaining and giving me a scenario that I think is very fun to watch, but the show definitely is lacking in subtle writing,
