Do you think there's any in-lore reason none of the sample synths have a white alpha male type?
So far we've seen that the black guy and indian guy are naive and goofy. The ginger is already psychotic but appears to be serious somewhat.
Meanwhile Wendy and the ambitious one are boss girl types.
Do you think this is on purpose by the prodigy guy for some reason.
Basically the group of kids is lacking an assertive "bully" type.

I don't think they can keep up the pace but it's good. I don't want to say it's great because I went in with rock bottom expectations but it's good. Plot armor is a little too noticable leading to some pretty retarded shit though (e.g. the xenomorph obliterating a room full of people in a few seconds or those army guys when it's in the bag thing (which was kind of dumb in itself) but not just killing Hermit multiple times).

Just looking at her picture makes me feel something strange inside. I guess you could call it "love". I'm in love with Wendy. I've lost interest in all girls, besides her.
Wendy really is all I think about all day, every day. I really do cry myself to sleep at night thinking about how I'll never be with her. If only she knew I existed in this life, if only she knew my deep profound love for her. I know that will never happen though. That is the thought that makes me so sad when I look at her. I'll never be with her, but I'll continue to love her until the day I die.

Why is the xeno seemingly immune to bullets, but not paper cutter blades? How did Wendy get the blade to stick to her back? Why even write in the cutter to start with? She could have just found a katana or something in the powdered wig guy's apartment. How did the people at that party not just hear or feel their building get 9/11'd?

The problem with Resurrection is that it did human body horror as deformed things, the beauthy of Giger is he makes it erotic and not too horrific he found the fine line of grotesque but beuty so it isn't just disgusting to be disgusting, the lines and curves excentuaute and cause an erotic activation. Ressurection failed on this because it's just disgusting deformities and body horror for the sake of it

It's common sense. It's science fiction after all. It's a plot point that could happen but I don't think the series has the space for it. If it does, it would be waste of runtime trying to deal with it or it would come off half assed. If it isn't important, then it works as intended. Nibs psychotic break could very well have to do with her death anxiety, her lack of hormones to regular what her human side is feeling then going apeshit.
I think it would honestly be a waste of time if they tried to fully explore the implications of the kids dying after the transfer and it just being a copy. This isn't that show, it should stick to the Xeno, corpo wars, and only touch on the surface what it means to be human and sane by the hybrids.

I'm really conflicted about the two ways this can go because they're both stupid
One's the easy stupid way - just ignore it, pretend it works. It's all scifi mumbo jumbo anyway, why can't it work? They just hit the blinky lights and the sick kid's soul moved into the robot, wallah
Two is the hard stupid way - actually the kid died and they made a copy. Isn't this a SHOCKING tweest?! Nobody could have ever seen that coming. In fact not even the world's greatest genius could have anticipated it!
Godamn it, considering how long the show spent explaining what fucking Peter Pan is to us, it's definitely gonna be the second one huh? They're going to congratulate themselves for "exploring consciousness and what makes 'you' you in a way fiction never has before"
At least we'll get this needle drop then

It's too safe of a well to drink from. I personally loved Kirsch's speech from the first episode. How humanity with all its advancements, have forgotten that they're still just animals no matter how long their stick becomes. I'd prefer it if it was just the hubris of trying to take that next leap in to human advancement was met with destruction, and what better companion for it than the Xeno's and the other specimens. That Prodigy's entire compound succumbs to these primal creatures and they end up just a meal for them. The best way to end it would be with Prodigy destroyed, their research going off different ways in to the other Corpos and if you want the "happy" ending, have Wendy survive to be the one taking names with the synths while she's the only hybrid left. Just another case of humanity running before it could walk.

So far I'm liking this show a lot. Only thing I don't really like are
1. The occasional pop music intersected into scenes. It feels jarring and in direct contrast to the times the show is trying to keep an eerie and atmospheric sci-fi tone like the first movie
2. The flashbacks are dumb and unnecessary and they take me out of the story a bit. I'm glad they don't happen very often so this isn't a huge complaint, but showing the character's reminiscing about some old thing that happened in the past just feels so out of place with the rest of the story and it feels like it wasn't even important to show it would have been fine and more natural with the character just talking about their memories. It feels like too much of a tonal/medium shift from the sci-fi horror..
3. The Peter Pan allegories feel too on the nose and unrealistic.I would have liked it better if they were either more subtle and "coincidental" about it where you could piece together the allegory yourself by paying attention to some names and themes, or if they went the route of naming things after peter pan as a tongue in cheek autistic scientist joke but everything didn't just fit the mold of the peter pan story. The fact that they are both openly referencing it, and playing into their roles is what kind of breaks the illusion that I'm not watching a television show for me. I would have liked it if it was just the autistic manchild being named peter and the main girl being named wendy, and the other characters just being a stand in for the lost boys rather than outright stated and the lab being fucking called neverland while showing you fucking snipets of the original disney peter pan movie. Like bro, that's not a clever reference for smart people that's just giving people the fucking answer and expecting us to be intrigued.
Overall I still think the show so far is pretty damn entertaining and giving me a scenario that I think is very fun to watch, but the show definitely is lacking in subtle writing,

Wendy will probably lure the alien onto a spaceship and fly it into the sun while a Jeff Russo and Noah Hawley cover of Pink Floyd's "Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun" plays. Then Ash will call Yutani and say "I can help!"

In Prometheus, when Weyland is awakened there are 3 mercs in the room with him in addition to David and Ford.
But when Weyland goes to see The Last Engineer he only brings one merc with him. The other two don't do anything to help Weyland or Vickers, or to stop Janek from crashing the ship.
Plus I think at least one of them is a merc that is also killed in the weird Fifield garage scene where they seemingly kill off all the unnamed characters.
Is it a writing problem or was the film just edited poorly?

edited poorly. if you listen to the commentary track, during almost every interesting part of the movie, Ridley says something about how there was a bunch of material cut for pacing "because you just want to get to the next scene" which, I don't mean to tell the guy who got knighted for making movies how to tell his job, but maybe the audience should be let in on the characters' motivations and reasoning for doing what they're doing, and if the scene where the captain told Charlize Theron about the test site that got nuked back in the day, it would make more sense as to why he's so ready to kamikaze the Engineer ship.
Didn't they say in the last episode they turned male kids into grown women?

Scott is mercurial so I wouldn't say it's set in stone that he would never do one. Over the years he's said a lot of bullshit and changed his mind about things a lot like most creative types. I don't think they'd ever do an extended cut for a standalone release but if they were to do a new box set one day I wonder if alt cuts of the most recent three films might be commissioned to entice people to buy, like with the old box set. Having said that, I don't know how much money they'd stand to make from physical media any more at this point.

They definitely could have done that if they wanted to but to my knowledge you're misremembering things and they didn't do that, pretty much all the adult avatars looked to be the same gender and ethnicity as the child that was transferred to them.
If they wanted to make this a story about coming to terms with your identity after changing bodies the concept was there for them to play with, luckily they disregarded that concept entirely in favor of telling a "forever young" story. I think in most circumstances telling the story of children finding out what it means to be an adult would be less interesting than a sci-fi version of contrasting identities, but people are SO fucking sick of identity related plotlines after having been constantly peddled that shit in modern television shows and movies lately

My headcanon is that the pressurized blood would repel projectile weapons kind of like how reactive armour works to divert AT weapons from penetrating the hull and killing everyone inside. The bullet pierces the exoskeleton, the blood immediately explodes outward with force, the bullet is either knocked away on glancing shots or most of its energy is absorbed trying to fight against the force of the blood. The pulse rifle rounds in Aliens were High Explosive which means that they aren't dependent on penetration depth or kinetic energy for effect, the payload detonating inside was enough to burst their carapaces open. With conventional bullets you'd either need rounds with a lot of mass to penetrate deep or sheer volume of fire in the hopes you can bleed off the pressurized exterior and start getting into the gooey insides.

I don't really see the point you're trying to make here anon. Aliens didn't have any plot points about identity or being forever young. It was just a kickass action movie.

>There's definitely something about dysmorphia in Alien: Earth's plot but it's approached from the opposite angle; the synth bodies are more or less just healthy adult versions of the original sick kid bodies to help them adjust more easily
Yeah I definitely don't dislike the concept they're playing here. The "lost boys" having to come to terms with being seen as adults while having the minds of children is imo an interesting concept, likewise is the idea of a manchild Peter Pan stand in being a mad scientist (though I still wish they would have been a bit more classy about it rather than beating us over the head with the fact that he's literally Peter Pan)

kek, this is how idiots see movies. "derrs guns shooty bang bang so is juss an action movie and nutting more!" You missed the entire arc about Ripley's life being destroyed, she has no place in that world now, nothing left, and her damn young daughter died of old age while she was gone. Her identity is destroyed and she's shattered by it. She only goes back as a chance to get some redemption then risks her empty life to save a surrogate daughter to feel whole again. But yeah, just watch the pew pew.

Ah, so you were doing the stonetoss comic joke.
I think the Alien franchise has always had artificial humans as the B-plot of the story though. First movie had the android betraying the crew to fulfill its mission, second movie had the android proving "not all androids", third movie had the Ceo showing up and showing that humanity can be worse than androids, 4th movie doesn't have much android stuff but it still has Ripley coming to terms with the fact that she isn't the same Ripley that died in 3.
Android was a big part of Promiscuous with the blonde fuccboy android, and androids was a big part of Romulus with the protagonists "adoptive brother".

Yeah the Mark Zuckerberg character is Peter Pan for sure now that I think about it. And I wonder if Wendy is supposed to be Captian Hook? Because she "hooks" the alien with that pole thing. There's no tension because the inconsistency is clear with the alien killing entire crowds of civilians and gun wielding people but then when it comes to named characters it drops its spaghetti and ultimately gets beheaded by Wendy like she's an anime character.
With horror if the main characters have obvious plot armor it just gets boring. In Alien added to the mystery of the xenomorph was the mystery of writing in that you couldn't easily predict who would survive or not.

We saw an alien gestate in a dog (in Alien3).
Is there a lower limit on a mammal the facehugger will attempt to couple with?
Would it be able to do reptiles or just mammals?
Presumably (since David made it based on gootech) it is designed to interact with a specific type of target organism, namely humans or humanoids but I wonder what the extent of flexibility is when it comes to what it can gestate in.
It seems to take some traits of the house.
I wonder if you can couple it with a whale or an octopus or a snail or any avian creature.

The Peter Pan stuff feels so forced.
Alien & Aliens was very family friendly all things considered. That's probably why it caught on so fast.
The protagonist survives, the cat survives despite Ripley dropping it in front of the alien, the little girl survives, etc. it was actually subverting expectations.
Normally horror movies go HARD and give no shits if your girlfriend, wife, soon to be wed, your child, your favourite character, etc. gets killed. Alien 3 did true horror and that's what turned people off from the series. Same with AVP Requiem where everyone gets nuked.
Same with the AVP2 video game where the cat does die, The Thing's wolves do get absorbed, so on and so forth.
People ironically want safe horror.

>Main Marine protagonist goes back to save Sergeant Hall 1 to 1 recreation to Aliens only for Sergeant Hall to have a chestburster pop out of her.
>Alien & Predator have a 1 on 1 fight and the Predator's explosion actually kickstarts the whole incident where it blows up a hole in the sewers big enough for the entire alien nest to come infect 1 of 2 of the human's bases.
>Tomiko nukes the whole site including herself.
>The asshole human gets infected and chestbursted
>The cat gets eaten by the chestburster
>For the first time in forever in the history of the Predator series the fucking Predator comes triumphant 2 times against the badass human ... in a goddamn exosuit no less ... we'll ignore the part where he gets captured and his 2 teammates get killed.

>Alien & Aliens was very family friendly all things considered.
the sci-fi horror about a monster parasite with acid blood that literally eats its way through your chest after basically raping your face and then becomes a slasher horror villain cutting people into small pieces is a family friendly franchise because a few characters survive? Golly anon, I never thought about it that way

What actually happened here?
It seems Jonesy inadvertently pulled a "can't give out no information" and stood up to a far more powerful adversary solely because he was too ignorant to feel any fear, right? If it had flipped out or hissed the alien surely would have killed it, but he didn't really get what he was looking at and played it cool so the alien didn't register him as prey. Or did a comic/novel or some other expanded universe slop make him an eldritch entity?

Does any documentary say wtf happened there? I can understand that the alien was busy with Brett, but when Ripley drops Jonsey's box to try and deactivate the self destruct sequence cause the alien is blocking the escape ship ... and then comes back and is surprised the alien didn't eat the cat ...
did the studio have anything in plan that never came to fruition just like the alien box thing where the alien stretches out from a small weird crate into a hulking beast?

I think it's intentional that they all look weak like him despite being powerful
like he wouldn't have chosen a bunch of gigachads who look like the engineers for his synth body designs, he wants a group of friends to vicariously entertain him so they all look like normal people and none upstage or threaten him directly
I think if/when one of them actually expresses that they're smarter than him he's going to get pissed off and realize he didn't want that

They had differing ideas for what was going on at the ending. On one hand, they wanted the xenomorph to have a short life cycle and its current form was dying. Which could have been that since it was a fresh newborn it was violent, but when it changes forms, it becomes more docile and intelligent. They usually have adult xenomorphs to guide them. It was annoyed by the blaring alarms, steam, and lights and went into the peaceful shuttle. Or it was tired and going into hibernation. They ended up just leaving it mysterious alien behavior why it went and crawled into the piping of the shuttle.
